Gabriel Jesus could be set to leave Arsenal much sooner than most would have expected, even before he makes his return from a long-term injury, according to the Daily Mail.

The Brazilian has been absent since mid-January when he suffered an ACL injury in an FA Cup encounter with Manchester United. However, he is close to making his long-awaited comeback.

With the Gunners aiming for him to make his return soon, they are reported to be willing to sell Jesus in the January transfer window if a suitable offer comes in.

Isaan Khan of the Daily Mail recently revealed that Arsenal are aiming for Jesus to get fit in order to be given some playing time next month, just in time for the winter transfer window.

He added that if a suitable offer is received, the Gunners will look to sell him, but if not, his departure is earmarked for next summer.

Jesus' future in north London has been uncertain for some time. Had he not sustained his long-term injury last season, it was likely he would have left the club in the last window, especially considering the arrival of Viktor Gyökeres.

He did enjoy a resurgence in the month leading up to his setback though as he enjoyed an impressive run of form that included a hat-trick and a brace in two respective matches against Crystal Palace. Regardless of his positive form prior to his injury, there was no denying he finds himself on thin ice at Arsenal.

It was great to see Jesus manage a return to his best before being ruled out, but there is no denying a sale would be the best option once he has returned to full fitness. He will be entering the final 18 months of his contract in January and the winter and summer window would be the Gunners' best opportunity to receive a decent fee.

He will of course need playing time in order to attract suitors and if Arsenal's plan to get him some minutes in December pays off, he could well be on his way out in the next transfer period, much sooner than many would have expected.

However, it seems as if he will need a good few months worth of minutes before bidding farewell to north London so it is likely he will remain a Gunner until the end of the season. There is no certainty in that happening though and he could still be on his way out in January.
