Arsenal legend Ian Wright would call Viktor Gyokeres' first season at the club a hit if he can score 15 or 16 Premier League goals.
Gyokeres has taken quite some time to gel up with his new Arsenal teammates, and he is still not fully adapted to Arsenal's style of play just yet, but he is showing a lot of improvement after each passing game.
Gyokeres' involvement is not as much as people expected it to be at the start when he first joined the club, but it is certainly more than what it was in his first few games. He is certainly improving, and the ball is ending up in the back of the net more often than not, too, which is the main thing Arsenal fans want from him.
Arsenal have looked better in the past than they have in some games recently, but after the win over Tottenham, it felt like things are coming together, and so is Gyokeres' form.
Wright recently spoke about it and what he said at the start of the season with respect to the amount of goals Gyokeres would score, and how much he would change that initial target.
Ian Wright sets Viktor Gyokeres’ goal target for Arsenal this season
He said: "I did say I think Viktor can score between 10 and 12 Premier League goals. If he carries on now, I believe he could probably get more. Every single goal now, when you see Arsenal are in everything, all the competitions, every single goal now is so important for him now.
“If he could get on that kind of run now, especially after them two goals he scored against Spurs, hopefully he can score those goals. People constantly talk about him as the guy that scores against the lower-end teams which he done in Portugal, he's doing it here but that's what Arsenal always need.
"He's got 10 goals now, I said 10 to 12 but if he can get 15 or 16 goals then he will be a hit. When you look at our run-in, you can see that he can do it but against Wolves, we went the other way, the pressure was mounting and they weren't dealing with it very well."
Arsenal need a lot from him. They need Gyokeres to score goals in transition, and they also need him to score against low blocks that offer little to no space to the attackers.
They need him to move inwards and outwards more often to make himself available as an option, so that they can get him to shoot the ball more.
These are the little things that matter, and Wright is spot on with his assessment. Gyokeres is clearly improving, and he is clearly getting in goals, but he also needs to score against teams that don't offer him that much space.
Gyokeres scoring 15 or 16 goals in his first season would be good because it's a huge transition to come from Portugal to England, but it is also worth noting that it is better for Arsenal to see Gyokeres score 15 but many of them are go-ahead, important goals against the 'small' teams, rather than him scoring 25 through stat-padding after the team is already in a much more comfortable position.
