Arsenal will play seven matches during the crucial month of March, but will go into this period on a high. Last Sunday, Mikel Arteta's team demolished Tottenham 4-1 in the North London derby, doing so for the second time this season, with Eberechi Eze and Viktor Gyökeres both bagging braces.

Next up, the Gunners will host Chelsea, while they'll also have both legs of their Champions League round of 16 tie as well as the small matter of the EFL Cup Final against Manchester City at Wembley to come.

Last weekend's spanking of Spurs was the eighth time Arsenal have scored four or more goals in a game this season, taking their tally to 96 goals across all competitions. So, how does that compare to other European juggernauts?

Of all 36 clubs who competed in this season's Champions League league phase, exactly half have scored 72 or more goals across all competitions to date. Arsenal's tally of 96 leaves them very much towards the top of this list, with only Bayern Munich and Barcelona have netted more frequently.

Thus, the Gunners have outscored all of their Premier League counterparts, albeit they're a tiny bit behind Manchester City in terms of goals-per-game. This very much does not align with the prevailing zeitgeist that Arsenal are too negative and overly cautious.

At a minimum, Arteta's team have 14 matches remaining this season, but there could still be as many as 22 fixtures to fulfill. So, could they break the club's single-season scoring record?

Will Arsenal's scoring spree be record-breaking?

Having scored 96 before we've even reached March, Arsenal may well be on course to break the club record for most goals scored in a single season.

The club's highest tally of goals scored in a campaign under Arteta is the 113 racked up in 2023/24, doing so in just 52 matches. That year, the Gunners' tally of 91 Premier League goals was their highest since netting 97 times en route to the First Division title in 1952/53.

Arsenal's all-time record number of goals across all competitions remains the 133 scored by Herbert Chapman's title winning team in 1930/31, and they only played 42 league matches and three FA Cup ties back then. So, can Arteta's team net 38 more times this season to break that?

Well, they'll certainly be favourites to progress through to the Champions League quarter-finals, awaiting to find out which Bundesliga side, namely Bayer Leverkusen or Borussia Dortmund, they'll meet in next month's round of 16. Similarly, they have been handed a favourable FA Cup fifth round tie against Mansfield at Field Mill; having scored four against Portsmouth and Wigan in that competition already, their tally should rise in Nottinghamshire.

Even if they don't make it all the way to the final of every competition, Arteta's side need to score just over two goals a game to beat the record set 95 years ago, which feels ascertainable doesn't it?
