Former Arsenal midfielder and current Luton Town manager Jack Wilshere had only nice things to say about Myles Lewis-Skelly in a recent interview.

Lewis-Skelly has been one of the standouts for Arsenal over the last couple of seasons. Two years ago, when he first came into the limelight, Lewis-Skelly was playing at left-back in the biggest Champions League games of the season.

After that, he had a bit of a slump but managed to come back to play in midfield for the last few games of the league campaign, as well as for the Champions League final against PSG last season, a position that Wilshere, along with a lot of other Arsenal fans, believes is Lewis-Skelly's best role on the pitch.

Wilshere talked about his attitude, how he loves the game, and how he is just a fan within the team as well, which is a great character trait to have.

He said: “Forget the ability and all of that, the one thing that I love about Myles is his character and personality and he’s never let that leave him.

"When I’d watch on the TV, it would sometimes go to Myles on the bench and he would still cheer every moment. He’s a character who wants to feel love and he gives a lot of love as well.

“He obviously found his way at the end of the season playing in the Champions League final, in my opinion, in his best position. I’d like to see him stay and fight for it because I believe he’s good enough to find his way in that team. I believe he can do that.”

Myles Lewis-Skelly's personality translates into the rest of the Arsenal players on the pitch

Wilshere has a really good point about having these sorts of players. Academy players, in general, will always have a little bit more love to give to the Arsenal team, even when they're not playing on the pitch.

They've always been around the club, they've been there for years and years, and they've developed an affection for the club that they now play for.

Academy players will always give that tiny bit more than a superstar you would sign. That is not to say the superstar would not give 100%, but academy stars like Lewis-Skelly have always been there to give their all for the club. That is not just true for Arsenal, it is true for every single club on the planet.

Lewis-Skelly is a great person to have around the dressing room, but he's not just that. There's so much more that he provides to the team.

He provides so much hope for academy players who want to be in his position in the future.

When he's actually on the pitch, the grace with which Lewis-Skelly plays football is amazing, and that is a big reason why Arsenal should desperately keep him for as long as possible.

Lewis-Skelly is not just a good academy product for Arsenal. He is one of the best young players in the Premier League, and if Arsenal want to go deep in every competition, they need to keep him around and give him plenty of game time.

Lewis-Skelly always delivers. His skill set is something that Arsenal have lacked in midfield at times. His dribbling, the way he keeps the ball, and the way he progresses it with his carries are second to none in this team.

Having him around for the long run is going to be important, not just for Arsenal, but also for the kids in the academy who dream of following in his footsteps one day.
