Jose Mourinho is set to be the next Real Madrid manager. He is wasting no time in bringing in new players and is targeting Piero Hincapie, who has just won the Premier League with Arsenal. Hincapie is only on loan at the Gunners from Bayer Leverkusen, where he won the Bundesliga.

ESPN has reported, "Real Madrid are still looking to bring in another centre-back this summer and one of the names they have enquired about is Arsenal's Piero Hincapie."

Arsenal does have the option to buy Hincapie, which will make the prospect of Real Madrid signing him tricky.

Hincapie was a versatile option for Arsenal. He is predominantly a center-back, but was able to fill in at left-back when needed. He ended up playing on the left side of defense 22 times for the Gunners. In his natural role at center-back, he featured just 17 times. This is because Mikel Arteta's favored center-back partnership is Gabriel and William Saliba.

The player on loan from Leverkusen even played left back in both Champions League semi-finals and the final. This was as Arteta deployed Myles Lewis-Skelly in defensive midfield. He also left Riccardo Calafiori on the bench against Paris Saint-Germain. Calafiori has also been linked with Real Madrid. However, it is unlikely that they will sign him now after capturing Marc Cucurella from Chelsea.

Should Piero Hincapie join Real Madrid instead of Arsenal?

It is no surprise that Real Madrid has been targeting multiple Arsenal players. The Gunners have just won the Premier League, and Los Blancos are used to cherry-picking the most talented players from English clubs.

Arsenal's defenders are also potent attackers, especially from set-pieces. Hincapie managed one goal and two assists last season for the Gunners. He is now with Ecuador at the World Cup. He played left-back as they lost to the Ivory Coast 1-0 in their opening game. Hincapie was then switched to center-back as the Ecuadorians drew 0-0 with Curacao in the second game. They now have the difficult task of facing Germany in their final game of Group E.

At Real Madrid, Hincapie may feel he would get more opportunities to start in his favored center-back position. David Alaba is leaving the club, and Antonio Rudiger is now 33. Eder Militao is injury-prone, while Raúl Asencio and Dean Huijsen underperformed last season.

Hincapie has also been linked with Real Madrid's bitter rivals, Barcelona. After winning the Premier League and the Bundesliga, Hincapie could complete the set if he claims a La Liga title with Los Blancos.
