Arsenal have been given a boost in their hopes of signing Viktor Gyokeres after reports emerged over the past day the deal was stalling.

The Gunners entered advanced talks with Sporting regarding a move for the striker on Sunday, but recent suggestions have been that there has been issues due to their asking price. This had led fans to grow concerned a deal would not be struck.

However, they have been reassured, with Arsenal now set to continue negotiations within the next 48 hours. Gyokeres' club had put talks on hold after failing to reach an agreement, but are happy to re-open serious talks with the Gunners remaining very optimistic a deal can be done.

Arsenal and Sporting to resume talks for Viktor Gyokeres

John Cross of the Daily Mirror reported that Arsenal and Sporting are ready to resume negotiations within the next two days with there being huge optimism that a deal will get done for the striker.

This will come as good news to the Gunners and their fans as the desperation for a world-class goalscorer grows greater and greater. However, it should also act as a warning to Arsenal.

The club are also in negotiations with Chelsea for Noni Madueke, having submitted a first bid yesterday, but that hasn't come without criticism from supporters. Their initial offer was a package worth £50million, below the Blues' asking price, but not too far off.

Arsenal will of course be in simultaneous negotiations for both Gyokeres and Madueke, but if they are willing to bid so highly for the latter, they have to be willing to offer a little more for the former.

Reports claim the Gunners are currently around £5m away from meeting Sporting's asking price, but the failure to reach an agreement so far hints that difference has been the problem causer.

Andrea Berta now needs to take advantage of the Portuguese side's willingness to return to negotiations, but also may need to fold to their demands. If he and Arsenal are happy to bid so highly for Madueke and continue negotiations, they have to go that bit further for Gyokeres.

The striker is their primary target this summer and he has to be brought to the club. Their hopes of signing him are helped by his desire to only join them, but they can't take this chance for granted. The Gunners have to strike a deal for Gyokeres in these next negotiations to avoid a total collapse, even if it does mean offering a bit more. Sporting have already shown they won't fold and it's possible they will continue to be stubborn.
