It is not often that a player sale is greeted with such universal sadness from an entire fan base. That though is certainly the case for Leandro Trossard. He arrived from Brighton in January 2023 to widespread indifference, following the club's failed pursuit of Mykhailo Mudryk. How things could've been different.
The Belgian now departs for Beşiktaş for £17 million a Premier League champion and a bona fide Arsenal legend. In 174 appearances for Mikel Arteta, he scored 36 goals, including 27 in the league. Of these, amazingly, 17 were game state changing, either drawing Arsenal level or putting them in front. Trossard became synonymous with clutch moments, so we've picked out his top five most memorable goals for the club, as a teary-eyed fanbase waves goodbye to a legend.

The second half of the 2023/24 season was, probably, the best Arsenal have ever played under Mikel Arteta, accumulating 49 points out of 54, but still falling short on the final day. During this period, Trossard scored in nine seperate matches, all wins, becoming a key figure at the club for the first time.
Well, arguably, the most memorable victory during this sequence came against Liverpool. Leading 2-1 in the dying embers, the Belgian burst down the left flank and slotted the ball through Alisson's legs. This ended the match as a contest, pushing Jürgen Klopp's team out of title contention, and sparked wild celebrations at the Emirates, coming in the midst of an eight game winning streak.

Our strike against Porto has been nominated for the @ChampionsLeague Goal of the Week 🙌
🗳️ You know what to do, Gooners 👇
Around the same time, Arsenal ousted Porto in the Champions League, their first knockout phase victory in the competition for 14 years. Following a 1-0 first leg defeat at Estádio do Dragão, everyone knew just how tough Sérgio Conceição's side were going to be to score against three weeks later.
Well, an inch-perfect through-ball by Martin Ødegaard, finished off by Trossard, proved to be the only goal of the night in North London, meaning penalties were required, progressing 4-2 in the shootout. While Arteta's team got no further, ousted by Bayern Munich in the quarter-finals, this win over Porto felt huge, exorcising demons of Champions League past and signalling the start of a new era.

At the very start of the 2024/25 season is where one may find the most archetypal Trossard moment. The Gunners were struggling at Villa Park, hanging on in there at 0-0 thanks to numerous excellent saves from David Raya. Just after the hour mark, Arteta replaced Gabriel Martinelli with Trossard, and this instantaneously had the desired effect.
With his very first touch, Trossard got on the end of a bobbling Bukayo Saka pull back and, in trademark fashion, found Emi Martínez's bottom corner. The winger could not have looked less happy in his celebration, displeased to have been on the bench in the first place; William Saliba encouraging him to perform his binoculars celebration remains an iconic moment. The away section in the Trinity Road Stand was absolutely bouncing that day, enjoying Trossard's instant impact that he will always be renowned for.

If there is one quick way to become popular among Arsenal supporters, it is to score in a North London derby. In January 2025, a rare midweek derby only served to ramp up the atmosphere, with the Gunners expected to cruise to victory, considering Ange Postecoglou's team were on their way to a 17th place finish, something that is becoming an annual event in N17 it seems. Thus, when Son Heung-min broke the deadlock for the visitors, you could hear a pin drop.
Thankfully, Gabriel equalised not long after, set piece again olé olé, before Trossard fired home the winner on the cusp of half time. After Yves Bissouma was robbed of possession, the Belgian appeared to have plenty of work to do out-wide, but took it on himself and lashed the ball into Antonín Kinský's bottom corner, before celebrating in front of the disconsolate Spurs fans. Just fantastic.

We've certainly saved the best for last haven't we? During this World Cup, or just in your everyday life really, if you hear the words "after review", every Gooner will think of the same moment. West Ham's disallowed equaliser that proved key to Arsenal's title victory will go down in folklore.
That though only mattered because, 15 minutes or so earlier, Ødegaard had danced through the Hammers defence and Trossard had lashed in the all-important breakthrough. What a moment this was; got goosebumps just thinking about it, how about you? Thought so. Nine days later, Arsenal were Premier League champions for the first time in 22 years, and Trossard's contribution to cause will not be forgotten. Good luck in İstanbul our friend, and thank you for your service.
