Martin Odegaard helped Norway defeat the Ivory Coast in the round of 32 at the World Cup. This means that he will come up against his Arsenal teammates Gabriel and Gabriel Martinelli, as Norway face Brazil next.

Odegaard was quoted, looking ahead to the match, saying, "They have a really good team, a lot of good players. It is going to be a tough, tough test for us. I know a few of them from Arsenal, top players, and I’m looking forward to seeing them. Hopefully we can give them a good fight.”

Alongside Gabriel and Martinelli, Odegaard has just won the Premier League and got to the Champions League final. However, international tournaments often pit club teammates against each other.

Odegaard's campaign with Arsenal was disrupted by injuries. This meant that he scored just one Premier League goal. The Gunners have recently been linked with another attacking midfielder in Morgan Rogers. However, Odegaard is reminding Arsenal fans of what he can do at the World Cup this summer. He is captaining Norway and has got an assist in the three games that he has played so far. He was rested for Norway's final group stage match, as they were already through to the knockout stages.

Can Norway upset Brazil in the round of 16?

Gabriel was a rock at the back for Arsenal last season and was a threat for set pieces. He has played every minute of the World Cup for Brazil this summer and assisted Casemiro's equaliser against Japan. It will be interesting to see Gabriel up against not just his captain at Arsenal, but Erling Haaland too.

Martinelli was the hero against Japan with his winner in added time. He has been limited to substitute appearances at the World Cup so far. The winger is competing with Real Madrid's Vinicius Junior for a starting spot. However, with his heroics against Japan and with Raphinha injured, Martinelli may get more minutes against Norway. If the match is still drawn going into the final stages, Carlo Ancelotti may look to Martinelli again for more magic.

Norway surprisingly has a very good record against Brazil. In four games, the Norwegians are undefeated with two wins and two draws. This includes Norway defeating Brazil 2-1 at the 1998 World Cup, which took place in France. This was thanks to late goals from Tore André Flo and Kjetil Rekdal.

The match was a final group stage match in which Brazil had already qualified for the knockout stages. Norway lost to Italy in the round of 16, whilst Brazil made it all the way to the final. They lost at the last hurdle to a Zinedine Zidane-inspired France.
