Paul Merson knows how to win English soccer's top flight with Arsenal. He won the old First Division twice with the Gunners in 1988/89 and 1990/91. The Gunners legend is now a pundit on Sky Sports and said that the club effectively won the title last weekend.

Arsenal finally capitalized on Manchester City and Aston Villa dropping points last weekend by defeating Leeds United 4-0. City drew 2-2 with Tottenham Hotspur, whilst Villa lost at home to a 10-man Brentford side.

Mikel Arteta's side is now six points clear at the top of the Premier League. However, we are still only 24 games into the season. The Arsenal manager is not getting carried away with former players' opinions on his team.

Speaking at a press conference in response to Merson's comments, Areta said, "We need another 13 or 14 of those and that will make it happen. We know how much there is still to do. We are very conscious of that. I think every club is very conscious of that and we just keep going."

Will Arsenal win the Premier League this season?

Arsenal have not won the title since the 2003/04 season, which was their 'invincibles' campaign. The pressure of not winning the league in so long, and the fact that they have been runners-up in the last three seasons, weighs heavily on the Gunners.

There is huge pressure on Arteta to deliver the title this season. So far, he has only won the FA Cup as the Gunners manager. They also have two Community Shields, but many fans believe that game to be a glorified friendly.

The Gunners finally have a squad deep enough to win the league. Viktor Gyokeres has come under a lot of criticism, but he did get on the scoresheet against Leeds. Gabriel Jesus is another option up front for the Gunners, who also scored at Elland Road last Saturday.

City have had so many mixed results recently. However, they often have a strong finish to campaigns. This could be Pep Guardiola's final season in charge at the Etihad Stadium, so he will be desperate to reclaim the title.

Remarkably, Villa are still in contention to win the league despite their awful start to the campaign. However, Unai Emery's side appears to be too inconsistent to win the division.

Arsenal have a fantastic chance to win the title this season. However, they cannot get carried away with comments that they have already won it.
