Mikel Merino missed Arsenal's 4-0 win over Leeds United last weekend due to an injury he sustained in the defeat to Manchester United in their previous Premier League fixture. There are now concerns that Merino could miss the rest of the season with a fractured foot.

Martin Zubimendi played 90 minutes in central midfield at Elland Road. However, the Gunners will need options in the position. Christian Nørgaard could fill in, but he has failed to impress since he arrived from Brentford last summer.

An alternative option in midfield for Arsenal could be Myles Lewis-Skelly. He is predominantly a left-back, but is not getting regular game time, even with Riccardo Calafiori out. Areta has chosen to play Piero Hincapié instead, even though he is a center-back and does not offer as much going forward as Lewis-Skelly.

Mikel Arteta believes that Lewis-Skelly could step into midfield for the Gunners this season. He said in a press conference, "Myles has the qualities to play in different positions. He has played as a full-back, as a six or as an attacking midfielder even. So yes, that is an option that we have in his squad."

Myles Lewis-Skelly has experience in midfield

Lewis-Skelly featured regularly for Arsenal's Under-18s and Under-21s in central or defensive midfield roles. However, he has only featured in midfield as a late substitute for the first team, which came in a 2-2 draw with Manchester City last season.

The Gunners are desperate to win the Premier League this season as they have been runners-up in the last three campaigns. They are fighting on multiple fronts as they are through to the last 16 of the Champions League, where they will face either Borussia Dortmund, Bayer Leverkusen, Atlanta, or Olympiacos.

Arsenal are also still in both domestic cup competitions. They play Chelsea in the second-leg of their semi-final tomorrow, where they look to overturn a 3-2 deficit. The Gunners have a good draw in the FA Cup, as they will play Wigan Athletic of League One.

Arteta will need to make use of his full squad if Arsenal are to win the Premier League this season and potentially claim other silverware. Lewis-Skelly is only 19, but is hungry for success and appears to have the character to make a difference.

This was shown when he mimicked Erling Haaland's meditation celebration after scoring against City last season. Arteta may need his Lewis-Skelly to try and wind up Haaland once more as they challenge Pep Guardiola's side for the title.
