Morgan Rogers has been linked with Arsenal. However, Aston Villa reportedly value him at a hefty £130 million. Transfer fees in this day and age are huge, and we are going to compare Rogers with other midfielders who have been sold for over £100 million.

Why is Morgan Rogers being valued at £130 million by Aston Villa

Rogers is Villa's most influential player, who has just helped them win the Europa League and finish fourth in the Premier League. In 55 games last season, he scored 14 goals with 12 assists.

There was even talk that he should be starting ahead of Real Madrid's Jude Bellingham at the World Cup. Bellingham eventually became Thomas Tuchel's first-choice attacking midfielder. However, Rogers still played a key role in England's win against Norway. Rogers took the initial effort, which the Norwegian spilled into the path of Bellingham to fire in the winner.

The Villa midfielder is contracted to the club until 2031 and is just 23. This is why Villa can command such a high price tag for Rogers.

What Morgan Rogers would bring to Arsenal

The weakness in Arsenal's lineup is seen to be the left-wing position. Rogers is predominantly an attacking midfielder, but he can also play on the left. He would be expected to play there for Arsenal, as their captain, Martin Odegaard, is their attacking midfielder. Odegaard missed much of last season due to injury, so Rogers would likely still get the opportunity to play through the middle for the Gunners.

Rogers would start ahead of Gabriel Martinelli on the left wing. Arsenal have also agreed to sell Leandro Trossard to Besiktas, which would make room for Rogers. The Gunners have just won the Premier League, but they will still need to strengthen if they are to retain their title. Mikel Arteta's side were seen as being over-reliant on set-pieces, so Rogers would offer more creativity in open play.

Arsenal will also be looking to go one better in Europe next season. The Gunners lost to Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League final. Rogers knows what it takes to win a European trophy, as he has just won the Europa League with Villa. Rogers even got a goal and an assist in the 3-0 win over Freiburg in the final.

Rogers' strengths:

  • High goal contribtions
  • Taking on players
  • Driving the ball forwards
  • Creativity
  • Versatility

The risks of a £130 million deal

When Jack Grealish was at Villa, he was a big fish in a small pond. He was able to express himself on the field, but at Manchester City he was not afforded the same freedom. Overall, Grealish did not live up to the expectations of his £100 million price tag.

There is a lot of pressure for players to live up to the fee paid for them. Wirtz at Liverpool was a flop since his big-money move from Bayer Leverkusen. Rogers will have to fit into Arteta's structure at Arsenal. He would also likely have to play more on the left than as an attacking midfielder.

Is Morgan Rogers worth £130 million?

The player may not think he is worth this amount. However, due to his importance to Villa and the going rates for top midfielders these days, Rogers is worth £130 million. Villa can also bump up their price tag for Arsenal, as they are a direct Premier League rival.
