No-brainer Arsenal transfer target is already too good for Mikel Arteta to refuse

Arsenal could really strengthen their attacking options with this signing.

Despite having Viktor Gyokeres, Kai Havertz, and Gabriel Jesus, the Gunners could still do with strengthening their forward line. They have been linked with Julian Alvarez of Atletico Madrid, and he would be too good for Mikel Arteta to refuse.

Gyokeres was seen as the missing piece between Arsenal winning the Premier League title or not this season. Whilst Gyokeres has not been as prolific as Gunners supporters might have hoped, they are still nine points ahead of Manchester City in the title race. However, City do still have a game in hand and play Arsenal on April 19.

Gyokeres was never going to be as prolific as he was in Portugal with Sporting CP in the Premier League. Last season, he scored 39 goals with eight assists in 33 games in the Portuguese League. This campaign, he has found the back of the net 11 times, without making an assist in 29 league games for Arsenal.

Havertz has missed much of the season due to injury, but did score an important winner in the first leg of their Champions League tie against Sporting this week. Jesus has also had his injury problems this campaign, but has still chipped in with two Premier League goals in 11 games.

Could Arsenal sign Julian Alvarez?

Alvarez already has experience of winning titles with an English club. With City, he won two Premier League titles, one FA Cup, the Champions League, UEFA Super Cup, and FIFA Club World Cup. In total, he scored 36 goals with 19 assists in 103 games for City.

He left City to ensure regular playing time after playing second fiddle to Erling Haaland at City. He may have reservations that Gyokeres would keep him out of Arsenal's team.

Despite being at Atletico since 2024, he is yet to win a trophy with them. They are currently fourth in La Liga, and he will want to add more silverware to his trophy cabinet.

He won almost everything there is to win at City, but he was never really a key part of their team. At Arsenal, he could be, and if the Gunners win the Premier League this season, we could be in for a golden era of success at the club.

Alvarez scored a sublime free-kick as Atletico defeated Barca 2-0 in the first leg of their Champions League tie last night. This could lead to us seeing Alvarez lining up against his potential future club, Arsenal, in the semi-finals.
