Arsenal completed a lot of business in the 2025 summer transfer window, but you might argue that none were more important than Cristhian Mosquera.
Which is wild to say. Cristhian Mosquera is not even good enough to start for Arsenal, yet he is their most important transfer of the summer... Doesn't add up, right?
Hear us out. The only reason why Cristhian Mosquera is not good enough to start for Arsenal is that they already have the best center back pairing in the world. It's hardly Mosquera's fault that he was brought into the best defense in the world.
But here's where Mosquera comes in.
Before Mosquera was signed, Arsenal boasting William Saliba and Gabriel was to their detriment. They relied too heavily on the pairing, and when one of them was out, who was there to replace? Jakub Kiwior? That's simply not good enough for a title-contending team.
Overlooked Arsenal transfer is about to become more crucial
Now that Cristhian Mosquera is in the fray, though, Arsenal have three center backs who could start for most of the Premier League's teams.
Unfortunately, Gabriel is injured. He's been Arsenal's most crucial defender this season, even getting himself involved in Arsenal's set-piece trend. Well, involved is the understatement of the year, but alas.
Rumor has it, he could miss one, even two months of action. That is a massive blow for Arsenal, and it comes at a crucial time in their season.
Everybody knows that the festive period is the busiest period in both English and European competitions. Even having Gabriel out for a month would be painstaking, but two months would be unbearable.
Mosquera, though, has already proven he can step in and fill that defensive void. He replaced William Saliba at the start of this season, and Arsenal fans never even realized Saliba was out of the picture.
Mosquera has already played well partnering with Gabriel on a consistent basis, but now let's see how he fares with Saliba. Heck, he might even play alongside Piero Hincapie for all we know, Mikel Arteta was clearly proud of that defensive partnership slightly before the international break.
Not much was expected of Mosquera when he first signed, but it'll be nice to see him get some more game time in the festive period. If only it were due to rotation rather than necessity, but beggars cannot be choosers.
Having Mosquera ready to slot in, with Piero Hincapie now on red alert too, this emphasizes how Arsenal's overlooked transfer business could keep them in the title race.
