Paris FC vs Arsenal match preview
It has been a borderline disastrous start to the season for Arsenal, meaning they are badly in need of a victory in the French capital. On Sunday, Renée Slegers' side were beaten 1-0 by fierce London rivals Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. After dominating the first 20 minutes, Arsenal fell behind on the cusp of half time and, in truth, never came particularly close to equalising thereafter.
This means, following dismal home draws against both Crystal Palace and Manchester United, Arsenal have just five points on the board after four WSL games. Failure to beat reigning champions Manchester City, who have maximum points to their name, at the Etihad on Sunday would end Arsenal's title aspirations before they ever truly begun.
Thus, the pressure is well and truly on Slegers and her players to deliver and fast. The Gunners did make a winning start to their Champions League campaign a week ago, albeit only just. They looked set for an ignominious goalless draw with HB Køge at Meadow Park until, deep into stoppage time, being awarded a penalty, one that Mariona Caldentey emphatically dispatched. This though will be a far tougher test, so can the 2025 Champions League winners rise to the occasion?
As for Paris FC, they finished tenth in last season's league phase, before being ousted by Real Madrid in the first knockout round, thereby hoping to go one step further this time round. Well, on matchday one of this year's edition, Sandrine Soubeyrand's side were heavily beaten 5-2 by holders Barça Femení at Estadi Johan Cruyff. They actually led inside five minutes through Evelyne Viens, but this served only to awake the beast, ultimately swatted aside in Catalonia.
More broadly though, Paris FC are a club on the up. They finished second in last season's Première Ligue, beating rivals PSG in the play-off semi-finals, before defeat to Lyon in the final. Well, earlier this month, les Parisiens were annihilated 7-1 by OL Lyonnes, underlining the gap that still exists between them and Europe's very best. Thus, the 1,010 Gooners inside Stade Jean-Bouin on Wednesday should expect to see a win but, the way Arsenal are playing right now, who knows.

In contrast, Renée Slegers' side had a morale-shattering, energy-sapping loss as recently as Sunday. Kyra Cooney-Cross and Kim Little came into midfield at Stamford Bridge, with Chloe Kelly, Stina Blackstenius and Olivia Smith all left in reserve, so will any of them come in.
Elsewhere, Anneke Borbe has started the last two matches in goal, after new recruit Misa Rodríguez had donned the gloves for the first three games, so does Slegers know her number one? It would appear not.
