Arsenal is a much better team this season than they were last season, and it's all thanks to a superb summer transfer window. Key players were signed, and Arsenal fans will feel like the right players left.
The likes of Jakub Kiwior, Reiss Nelson and Fabio Vieira, to name a few, left Arsenal in the hopes of more game time.
Jakub Kiwior left Arsenal on loan, joining Porto. It was a move that Arsenal fans could see coming from a mile away, and it was only made more obvious why when Cristhian Mosquera and Piero Hincapié joined the North London side.
Jakub Kiwior's loan move has gone swimmingly
As relayed by Jamie Brown, Jakub Kiwior is going down well with the Porto fans. Some, on social media, have even dubbed him the best center back in Portugal right now. Other fans pointed at Arsenal and thanked them for the gift of Kiwior.
It is fair to say that this will come as a surprise to Arsenal fans. A large section of the North London faithful already gave up hope with Kiwior. Those fans would have even been disappointed that his loan move was a permanent one instead.
However, if Porto fans see something in their loaned defender, then this is certainly worthy of attention from Arsenal. Mikel Arteta might have made up his mind on Jakub Kiwior already, but if he hasn't, then his form at the start of this season will spike his attention.
Oftentimes, when a player is sent out on loan, it's an indication that the parent club is done with them. Very rarely do players come back from loan and make the starting lineup, particularly at a club the size of Arsenal. The last obvious example was William Saliba.
Arsenal's squad depth is not kind to Jakub Kiwior
Player | Primary position |
|---|---|
William Saliba | CB |
Gabriel Magalhaes | CB |
Cristhian Mosquera | CB |
Piero Hincapié | CB |
Ben White | RB (but can play CB) |
Jurrien Timber | RB (but can play CB) |
Even if Jakub Kiwior returns from his loan spell with an eye on the Arsenal first team, it will be hard for him. In fact, it will be harder than it was when he left the club.
As mentioned, the additions of Cristhian Mosquera and Piero Hincapié, both hitting the ground running, has complicated matters. Arsenal also have Ben White and Jurrien Timber ready to slot in if needed. Then, needless to say, William Saliba and Gabriel have the position locked in when fit.
Long story short, Jakub Kiwior needs to continue impressing at Porto if he wants to convince the Portuguese side to sign him permanently.
