PITA's Arsenal Player of the Month - February 2024
- Arsenal were utterly dominant domestically in February
- Title charge ignited by victory over Liverpool
- Defeat in Porto only black stain on month's work
As months go, February 2024 will be remembered as one of Arsenal's most dominant in recent memory.
Domestically, the Gunners ignited their title charge in the wake of an outstanding performance against Premier League leaders Liverpool. In the aftermath, Arsenal have won three consecutive domestic bouts by a 15-1 aggregate score and are right on the Reds' heels.
Sure, the Champions League defeat in Porto was a distinct black stain on the month's work, but would you bet against this Gunners outfit overturning the deficit on home soil. They're utterly rampant right now, and so many players have been crucial to their recent dominance.
Jakub Kiwior and Martin Odegaard are well worth shouting out, but they just missed out on a podium finish for our latest Player of the Month award. So, who's come out on top? Let's dive in!
PITA's Arsenal Player of the Month - February 2024
3. Leandro Trossard (Average rating - 7.66)
Much of Trossard's bright work since he joined the club has arrived off the bench. The Belgian had only rarely produced standout performances when included in Mikel Arteta's starting XI.
That trend altered in February, however, with Trossard loving life in a fluid forward role in Gabriel Jesus' absence. His display in the 6-0 thrashing of West Ham was his best since his three-assist game at Fulham last season.
With Jesus continuing to flirt with injuries, Trossard will play a key role for Arsenal down the stretch.
2. Declan Rice (Average rating - 7.8)
Where would Arsenal be without Declan Rice, eh? With Thomas Partey missing much of the campaign thus far after undergoing thigh surgery, Rice has been a constant in the middle of the park.
The Englishman particularly enjoyed teaming up with veteran Jorginho in the middle of the park, with the pair working superbly together in the victories over Liverpool and Newcastle.
West Ham and a dire Burnley gave Rice little to think about, with his thunderous strike against his former club undoubtedly being the midfielder's standout February moment amid another period of stellar consistency.
1. Bukayo Saka (Average rating - 8.0)
2023/24 has been a season of impressive production for Saka, but only recently has the winger started to turn it on.
He's beginning to dominate matches down the right flank in the manner supporters grew used to in previous campaigns.
Saka drew a blank against Porto but scored in every February Premier League fixture - including braces against West Ham and Burnley. The world-class 22-year-old has discovered his most potent form at a crucial time, and PFA Player of the Year honours beckon should he catapult Arsenal to the title.
