William Gallas suggests Mikel Arteta should sign Chelsea flop
William Gallas was once a very popular figure at Arsenal and understandably so, given his tecnhical ability. However, his leadership qualities, or I should say lack of leadership qualities, left a bitter taste in the mouths of Arsenal fans. In case you missed it, Pain in the Arsenal ranked William Gallas as the second from worst Arsenal captain of the Premier League era.
So it may come as a surprise to Arsenal fans that William Gallas has involved himself in Arsenal transfer news by suggesting a player Mikel Arteta should target.
According to FourFourTwo, William Gallas thinks Arsenal should re-enter the race to sign Mykhailo Mudryk from Chelsea, after failing to sign him from Shakhtar Donetsk in the 2023 January transfer window.
In his own words, Gallas said: “I know that Emmanuel Petit spoke about Mudryk potentially joining Arsenal, as Arteta likes him, Mudryk could be a good fit, with his speed and quality and that’s why Arteta likes him. Before he signed for Chelsea, Arsenal nearly signed him but he changed his mind and you cannot forget that."
Undeniably, Mudryk would improve at Arsenal since Mikel Arteta is a better coach than Mauricio Pochettino. However, I do not think returning to sign a confidence-depleted Mudryk would be the wisest of choices. There is the issue of left-wing being a competitive position for Arsenal but also, Mudryk has already proven he values money over his development.
Maybe that's just me, though.
Jorginho open to Juventus move
Jorginho is one of the Arsenal players with contracts expiring in 2024. It remains to be seen whether he will put pen to paper over a new contract extension but given Arsenal's hunt for a new midfielder or two in the transfer window, it does not look likely.
According to an update from Tuttosport, Juventus are tipped with signing Jorginho on a free contract come the end of the season. Their technical director Cristiano Giuntoli admitted he received a call from Jorginho recently, so this looks like his next destination.
Jorginho has ended up being a good signing for Arsenal but he was never a long-term midfield solution.
Shakhtar Donetsk expect to lose Arsenal transfer target this summer
Speaking of Mykhailo Mudryk, his old club Shakhtar Donetsk are set to be in contact with Arsenal yet again this summer, as the Gunners would like to sign their Ukraine midfielder Georgiy Sudakov. According to Standard, Shakhtar expect Sudakov to leave this summer.
