Arsenal take on Port Vale in the third round of the Carabao Cup on Wednesday evening and will be looking to capitalise on playing a team from the lower leagues.

The Gunners rescued a point last time out as they drew 1-1 with Manchester City at the Emirates Stadium. As the clock ticked down, the Cityzens looked destined to take the win after Erling Haaland had given them the lead inside the opening 10 minutes, but Gabriel Martinelli had other ideas. In the third minute of stoppage time, the Brazilian beat Gianluigi Donnarumma with a dinked effort to save his side.

With two divisions separating Arsenal and Port Vale, Mikel Arteta will know he can take a somewhat relaxed approach to the tie and will pounce on the opportunity to rotate his side. He will likely field a weaker team for the game, offering a number of squad members a chance for playing time.

Here's how we think the Arsenal team we could look for their trip to Vale Park.

Goalkeeper & Defenders

Kepa Arrizabalaga (GK) - Playing a weaker side offers him the perfect chance to make his competitive debut. He looked good in pre-season so will look to replicate those performances on Wednesday.

Ben White (RB) - He returned to the bench against Man City and will likely come into the starting lineup to allow Jurrien Timber a rest.

Cristhian Mosquera (CB) - Despite his top performances as a stand-in, he was replaced by William Saliba for the City game. He will return to defence for this match however.

Gabriel Magalhaes (CB) - Piero Hincapie's fitness uncertainty means the Brazilian will have to remain in defence for this tie. He will unfortunately be one of the first team players who has to play another long game.

Myles Lewis-Skelly (LB) - With just three substitute appearances to his name this season, he is need of a start and this is the perfect opportunity.

Midfielders

Christian Nørgaard (DM) - He will make his full Arsenal debut at the base of midfield to provide Martín Zubimendi an opportunity to sit this one out. His experience will be important for the Gunners.

Ethan Nwaneri (CM) - He impressed in this competition last season and will look to do so once again this campaign. It'll be a good chance for him to make an impact amid challenges for a midfield spot.

Declan Rice (CM) - Like Gabriel, he won't be given the chance to rest, but he should be able to cope with the minutes and will likely dominate the midfield with ease.

Forwards

Bukayo Saka (RW) - After making his return off the bench against City, he will start on the right flank. Max Dowman is a contender to start, but he will likely be introduced later in the game.

Leandro Trossard (ST) - Viktor Gyokeres will be given a rest and the Belgian will act as his deputy for this game. He will be hoping for an improvement on his performance last time out.

Gabriel Martinelli (LW) - Back in form with two goals and one assist, this will be a perfect chance for him to build some more confidence on the left side of attack.
