Arsenal fans will be delighted to learn today that, according to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, Spanish under-21 international and Valencia star, Christhian Mosquera, has rejected a new contract offer by his club.
The player has allegedly rejected the offer of a contract renewal until 2028. The Mestalla club has offered Mosquera a salary of three million euros gross, but it appears that the young central defender is fixed on a move to Arsenal.
According to Las Provincias in Spain, Mosquera's head had been turned by the approach from Arsenal in the absence of any new contract offer by his club.
Valencia have been reported to have turned down two bids for the player already, with offers in the region of £13 million being claimed.
"For sure the conversation will continue club to club for Mosquera and the desire of the player is to go to Arsenal."Fabrizio Romano
The way is now clear for Arsenal and Valencia to come to an agreement over the fee for Mosquera, who has just one year left to run on his current contract.
Mosquera would provide useful back-up for Gabriel Magalhães, being a right-footed player. This would provide Mikel Arteta with more opportunities to rest and rotate in defence.
Mosquera has been described as being a similar player to Gabriel Magalhaes. Good in possession, the young Spaniard is capable of bringing the ball out of defence. Mosquera rarely commits fouls, preferring instead to clear up loose balls.
Furthermore, there is a great benefit to the long-term success of the club in bringing in young players to develop alongside the established stars.
Although Mosquera wouldn't be the most talked about signing of the window, it could prove to be one of the most astute acquisitions this summer.
The Gunners may not have things all their own way though. Reports that RB Leipzig are also interested in signing Mosquera have recently been made public.
