Bruno Guimaraes is very, very close to joining Arsenal from Newcastle United, according to recent reports.
All there is left, according to the latest from L'Equipe, is the agents fee, bonuses, and other small fees. The general agreement, in principle, is finalised between the two parties.
In a transfer that was not at all expected at the start of the saga, it now revolves around the notion that Arsenal have one of the best defensive midfielders in the Premier League in their ranks.
Martin Zubimendi was signed from Real Sociedad last summer, but it was quickly made clear to Mikel Arteta that in some games, Zubimendi was just not performing consistently well, and for them to take the leap, their midfield had to be a bit stronger. However, the player who is losing out the most after this signing is definitely not Zubimendi.
Myles Lewis-Skelly will lose out on his spot in the lineup very harshly
Myles Lewis-Skelly worked his socks off to become an important player in the midfield for Arsenal last season. From barely playing at the start of the season, to starting the Champions League final alongside Declan Rice, it showed how talented the player actually is and how hard he worked to get to that point.
Obviously, the talent was always there, but he was never getting the chances he wanted in his preferred position. Lewis-Skelly was moved to LB during the time of an emergency, and was never given many chances to play in his natural position. Once he was, the club never looked back, and the Englishman started gaining more and more confidence and solidified his stay in the lineup, over Zubimendi, who was only signed a few months ago.
However, now, Lewis-Skelly would be the one who is going to miss out on chances. Zubimendi was already playing a smaller role than he was at the start of the season. But, Lewis-Skelly - a player who worked so hard as a homegrown talent to get into the squad of the club of his dreams - will now have to sit back and watch Guimaraes take his position on the pitch.
He would still get chances. It is obvious that Lewis-Skelly is clearly talented enough to be in the squad for Arsenal at all times, but at the age he currently is, he needs more than just chances - he needs regular game-time, and it is hard to believe he is going to get that at Arsenal from now on.
