Tottenham is targeting a new player, which only means one thing: Arsenal has first dibs on him. But should Mikel Arteta consider signing Jarrod Bowen?
Let's face it, the Tottenham roster is full of players who could have played for Arsenal, but weren't quite good enough. For example, Arsenal once considered the signings of Mohammed Kudus and Xavi Simons, but in the end, opted for better options than them.
On the flip side, Arsenal took up the opportunity to sign Eberechi Eze. This was despite him being ever so close to signing for Tottenham. The fact of the matter is that Arsenal always have, and always will be, more dominant than Tottenham in the transfer market.
Jarrod Bowen suits Arsenal more than he suits Tottenham
Recently, Tottenham was linked to Jarrod Bowen of West Ham United. It is hardly surprising, since Mohammed Kudus has blown them away this season, so they want more of that West Ham gold (if you pardon the pun).
Considering this, you can't help but imagine Jarrod Bowen in an Arsenal shirt. It is unlikely to happen, considering the strength that Arsenal already has in his position, but my oh my, he would go from being a great player to a world-class player at the Emirates Stadium.
Jarrod Bowen can play anywhere across the front line. This versatility has helped him to carry West Ham, but at a more suited club, he would settle on one position. That one position would likely be at right-wing.
On the right wing, he fits a similar profile to Bukayo Saka. He would cut inside and curl a shot with his left foot. You know, Saka's bread and butter move.
It is for this reason that Arsenal probably won't pursue Bowen. Bowen is far too good to play backup, and Arsenal already has this in Noni Madueke.
In a different universe, though, Arsenal would be all over Bowen.
We cannot sit here, act all high and mighty, and claim that Bowen is a bad player. That would be nonsensical; anyone with a footballing brain and eyes can see that. However, we can say that he is more suited to Arsenal than Tottenham.
Tottenham needs Bowen more, but Bowen needs Arsenal more. It truly is a sad reality, but Mikel Arteta's squad is too full to house another redemption story. A few years ago, Bowen would have struck gold by joining Arsenal instead.
