Martin Odegaard was a key performer as Norway sent Brazil packing in the World Cup Round of 16. Next up, the Arsenal captain will face England in Miami, but before they do, Vinicius Junior has reminded Arsenal fans that Odegaard is still that guy.
To be honest, Odegaard is somewhat disrespected at Arsenal these days. People forget that he's a world-class midfielder, just because he had a few months outside of his A-game.
Addressing how Brazil struggled against Norway, Vinicius Junior reminded the world that any team with Odegaard in it is capable of controlling the game.
"Was our tactical plan to let Norway dominate possession and try to do counterattacks? No, that wasn't our plan at all." said Vini Jr.
"Norway surprised us. They moved very well; they controlled the game, as Odegaard always does, and we couldn't figure out the timing to press them and win the ball back."
Vini Jr is a proud Madridista, and Odegaard has a Real Madrid past. They were at Real Madrid together during the same time, but obviously, Vini Jr is much more widely known at the club.
Vini Jr's best days came at Real Madrid, whereas Odegaard's best days came at Arsenal. Nevertheless, there is a respect that Vini Jr still holds for Odegaard, and for him to name drop the captain like that after a big game shows how far he's progressed at Arsenal.
Arsenal fans run the risk of forgetting who Martin Odegaard really is
Form is temporary, but his World Cup run is proving that class is permanent. Alongside Jude Bellingham of England, Martin Odegaard could be considered the best midfielder of the entire tournament so far.
He is one Arsenal player who fans won't mind seeing go far (not at the expense of eliminating England, of course). Unlike some of his teammates, like Declan Rice, Odegaard did not play too much last season for Arsenal. Therefore, he is not at risk of further exhaustion. If anything, it's great to see him getting his mojo back on the world stage.
Towards the tail end of last season, Martin Odegaard helped Arsenal massively. He appeared to be getting back to his best just when Arsenal needed him most, and while Leandro Trossard is praised for scoring that goal against West Ham, let's not forget who broke the defence down with his intricate footwork inside the box.
Vini Jr learned it the hard way, so Arsenal fans best not forget it. Odegaard is who wins you games.
