In response to a poll put out on AFTV's transfer daily show, it is being claimed that 83% of listeners said that they did not want Noni Madueke at the club.
There are a number of reasons being given for why Arsenal shouldn't be signing Madueke. However, very few (if any) are for legitimate footballing reasons.
It seems that signing the current England international will not impact on the board's desire to sign Eberichi Eze from Crystal Palace, or Rodrygo from Real Madrid for that matter. It appears that PSG and Al-Nassr have now entered the race to sign Rodrygo.
Arsenal may view Ethan Nwaneri as an Eight or a Ten
It has been widely shared that Arsenal do not see 18-year-old Ethan Nwaneri as an out and out winger. He is more likely to be played as an attacking midfielder. Therefore, the potential of Madueke joining the ranks should not impact on Ethan Nwaneri's playing time at all. Not that Arsenal should be held to ransom over playing time anyway.
Madueke can play on the left as well as on the right, as he has done for both Chelsea and England when required. This could add potency to Arsenal's attack and provide much needed cover for Gabriel Martinelli or Leandro Trossard.
Whether Martinelli and/or Trossard will be at the club at the end of August will probably hang in the balance if Madueke, Eze and Rodrygo all sign.
Arsenal should not pay anything close to £50 million for Madueke
It is being claimed on the podcast that the Madueke deal is being done purely to fund Chelsea's purchase of Jamie Gittens from Borussia Dortmund. This, of course, is economic reality.
What is also economic reality is that Arsenal should not pay anywhere close to £50 million for Madueke. The price is more likely to be in the region of £35 million, if common sense prevails.
If a satisfactory agreement is reached for Madueke then Berta would be a fool to pass up on the opportunity to sign him. This is not a time for vanity or London centred snobbery. It doesn't matter where the player comes from if he can do the job that he is signed to do.
