Arsenal have revealed Christian Norgaard as their third signing of the summer and fans will be wanting to know what number will go hand-in-hand with his name on the back of his shirts.
The former Brentford captain wore the number six during his time with the Bees, as well as his sole season with Fiorentina. Those digits are unavailable to wear for the Gunners, as are the 19 he donned for Brondby and the 15 he frequently occupies for the Denmark national team.
With his previous numbers unavailable, Norgaard has had to pick a new option for Arsenal and he has opted to wear the 16 shirt.

Norgaard takes a number that has a decent history of occupants at Arsenal. He is the first player to don the digits since Rob Holding vacated it upon a move to Crystal Palace in the 2023 summer transfer window.
One of the finest players of the Emirates era, Aaron Ramsey, wore the shirt for several seasons before switching to number eight with Mathieu Flamini, Sylvinho and Giovanni van Bronckhorst among the others to wear it.
While he is likely to be a mere squad player, the Dane will be wanting to replicate the legacy of Ramsey in particular. Despite injury struggles, the Welshman was always a reliable figure when on the pitch for the Gunners and Norgaard will want to be the same.
There is no clear reasons why Norgaard took the number 16 shirt, but with others such as 18, 25, 26 and 27 available, his new digits' could have been a little throwback to his predecessors.
As an experienced backup, Norgaard is likely to take to the Emirates pitch wearing his new number on plenty of occasions next season and Arsenal fans should be excited to see him do so.
