The North London Derby is one of the fiercest of Premier League rivalries. There have been heroes and villains on both sides. Thierry Henry, Patrick Vieira, and now Bukayo Saka have been involved in many memorable moments for the Gunners.

Spurs have had players such as Gareth Bale, Paul Gascoigne, and Gary Lineker make big contributions for them. Whilst there have been those who have represented both sides, such as Sol Campbell and Emanuel Adebayor. However, it is never a popular move to cross the North London divide.

Arsenal are currently leading the Premier League, so Tottenham would love to put a dent in their title chances. Spurs are currently fifth in the division and will have ambitions of finishing in a Champions League place. The Gunners slipped up in their last match before the international break, drawing 2-2 with Sunderland. Therefore, Mikel Arteta's side needs to get back to winning ways.

Last season (2024-25), Arsenal won both ties; they defeated Spurs 1-0 away from home and then 2-1 at the Emirates Stadium. They were not the most memorable of ties, so we are taking a look at some of the greatest North London Derbies of all time.

The top 5 most memorable North London Derbies

5. Arsenal 5-2 Tottenham, Premier League 2011/12

Whilst at Manchester City, Adebayor celebrated wildly when scoring against the Gunners. He then joined Tottenham on loan and once again came back to haunt his former club. Along with Louis Saha, Adebayor fired Spurs to a two-goal lead in this fixture back in 2012.

However, the Gunners produced an emphatic comeback, Theo Walcott got on the scoresheet twice, whilst Robin van Persie, Bacary Sagna, and Thomas Rosický also found the back of the net.

Van Persie would end that season as the Premier League's top goalscorer, but would then move to Manchester United. He won the division with United, but many Arsenal fans have still not forgiven him for leaving.

4. Tottenham Hotspur 4-5 Arsenal, Premier League 2004/05

This high-scoring tie was only 1-0 to Spurs at half-time, due to a goal from Noureddine Naybet. However, goals from Henry, Vieira, Lauren, Freddie Ljungberg, and Robert Pirès ensured the Gunners the victory.

Jermaine Defoe, Freddie Kanouté, and Ledley King also netted for Spurs, but they were not enough to get a result. This match has not aged well in terms of match quality, especially after the then Chelsea manager, Jose Mourinho, branded it a hockey score. Mourinho's Blues would go on to win the Premier League that season.

3. Tottenham Hotspur 5-1 Arsenal, League Cup 2007/08

Adebayor scored Arsenal's goal that day, but it was to be only a consolation. Defoe, Jermaine Jenas, Robbie Keane, Aaron Lennon, Steed Malbranque, and an own-goal from Nicholas Bendtner ensured an emphatic win for Spurs.

It was a 6-2 aggregate win for Tottenham in the semi-finals of the League Cup. Spurs would win the competition that year, which was to be their only trophy for 17 years. Their trophy drought was to be ended by a Europa League title earlier this year.

2. Arsenal 4-4 Tottenham Hotspur, Premier League 2008/09

Another former Gunner, David Bentley, came back to haunt them in this tie. He scored a fantastic goal to give Spurs the lead. However, Mikaël Silvestre levelled for Arsenal just before the break. William Gallas and Adebayor, and Robin van Persie then gave the Gunners a comfortable lead.

Darren Bent, who is now openly an Arsenal fan on talkSPORT, got one back between Adebayor and Van Persie's goals. Then late goals from Jenas and Lennon ensured a point for Spurs. Lennon's goal was scored dramatically as he tapped in after Luka Modric had hit the post. A very high-scoring match, which was worth a North London derby.

1. Tottenham 2-2 Arsenal, Premier League 2003/04

Arsenal may have blown a two-goal lead in this tie, but it was enough to clinch the Premier League title. Vieria and Pires gave the Gunners a comfortable lead at half-time, but it was a game of two halves. Jamie Redknapp and Keane ensured a point for Spurs.

Winning a trophy on your rivals' turf is special, and the Arsenal players celebrated wildly with their supporters in the away end. The home fans departed the scene as quickly as possible. That season was also memorable for Arsenal as they would end it undefeated. This was not the first time that Arsenal had won the league at White Hart Lane, as they had done so back in the 1970/71 campaign.

The Gunners are the only Premier League side to remain undefeated throughout a campaign. They have already lost in the division this season to Liverpool. However, Mikel Arteta's current side will need to be as close to perfection as possible if they are to win the title this season.
