Arsenal's Morgan Rogers mistake is already becoming painfully obvious

Leandro Trossard's impact and influence at Arsenal were not underestimated. The Belgian international was crucial to Arsenal's success last year, scoring eight goals and providing 11 assists in 50 matches.

However, in the summer, the 31-year-old left to join Turkish side Beşiktaş, and the Gunners have struggled to replace him. So far this season, the left-wing spot has been a combination of Eberechi Eze, who is better in the number 10 spot, and Christos Tzolis, who joined from Club Brugge in the summer.

Tzolis has already recorded two assists this season, and Eze one, but neither has yet to find the net, and it is clear the Gunners want their wingers to be as much a goal threat as a creator.

Arsenal should've signed Morgan Rogers in the summer

Trossard was a big-game player for the Gunners; he always scored in the big moments, and that's something Arsenal should have addressed. They really had two options in the summer: spend big money on a replacement, or look to sign another younger player, like Tzolis, who could become what Trossard was last year.

There were two big winger names linked with a move to the Emirates: Vinicius Jr and Morgan Rogers. It is becoming clear that they should've gone with the latter. Rogers joined Chelsea for £117m over the summer, after a season which saw him score 14 goals and provide 12 assists for Aston Villa.

Rogers has proven himself to be a difference-maker in the Premier League over the past few seasons, and he's already hit the ground running at Stamford Bridge. He's scored three goals and provided four assists in six games for the Blues; that's the sort of goal threat Arsenal could have done with at left-wing.

The Gunners had been linked with the England international, but failed to land him, a move that may come back to bite them, especially as he joined a rival.

Arsenal could've picked up a bargain gem too

Other than Rogers, Arsenal also had an interest in Ajax winger Mika Godts, who had been one of the Eredivisie's standout players over the past two years. The 21-year-old left Amsterdam in the summer, but he ended up joining Champions League winners PSG for £47 million.

He would have been a cheaper option compared to Rogers, but less proven; however, his numbers speak for themselves. Last season at Ajax, the Belgian international scored 17 goals and provided 15 assists, showing himself to be that difference-making player, much like Trossard was for Arsenal last year.

Arsenal missed out on both Rogers and Godts, so they may decide to look for a left-winger in January. If they don't, they will have to hope that the gamble they took on Tzolis pays off and that he becomes a must-start attacker for Mikel Arteta this season.
