Arsenal have the chance to close the gap on Premier League leaders Liverpool to three points when they face Brighton on Saturday evening.

The Gunners are in action before the title favourites this weekend, with the Reds facing arch-rivals Manchester United at Anfield on Sunday.

Arsenal secured a huge come-from-behind win on New Year's Day at Brentford, with Gabriel Jesus, Mikel Merino and Gabriel Martinelli getting themselves on the scoresheet. While Mikel Arteta's men were facing a depleted Bees outfit in poor form, they nonetheless displayed impressive serenity and control in a tough environment.

Wednesday's victory means Saturday's visitors head into the contest on a 12-game unbeaten run.

Brighton, on the contrary, are without a win in seven and have drawn four of their previous five games. After starting the season so brightly, injuries have caught up with Fabian Hurzeler's side. However, their recent performances have warranted more points, and they'll be a tricky assignment for Arsenal on Saturday.

Here's our preview of Brighton vs Arsenal in the Premier League this weekend.

Brighton vs Arsenal head to head record

The two sides played out a controversial draw back in August, with Declan Rice's petulant dismissal changing the dynamic of the contest. Brighton fought back to earn a point at the Emirates after Kai Havertz had given the hosts a first-half lead.

Arsenal are unbeaten on their four previous visits to the Amex, with Brighton last defeating the Gunners on home soil in June 2020 - "Maupay, you're a cheat!"

Brighton team news

Brighton new boy Diego Gomez will have to wait for his debut having completed a move from Inter Miami before Christmas. The Paraguayan is expected to be eased into action and will likely feature for the first time against Norwich in the FA Cup third round.

The Seagulls' injury woes are unlikely to ease off in time for Arsenal's visit, with former Gooner Danny Welbeck still out of action. Evan Ferguson also isn't available, so Hurzeler will likely use either Joao Pedro or Georginio Rutter up top.

Ferdi Kadioglu, James Milner, Jack Hinshelwood and Mats Wieffer are also sidelined. Pervis Estupinan and Adam Webster should be available.

Predicted Brighton lineup vs Arsenal: Verbruggen; Veltman, Van Hecke, Dunk, Estpuninan; Baleba, O'Riley; Minteh, Pedro, Mitoma; Rutter.

Arsenal team news

Kai Havertz missed Wednesday's victory in west London due to a reported illness, so he might be eased back in this weekend with Gabriel Jesus continuing up top.

Ethan Nwaneri's bright New Year's Day showing should convince Arteta to retain him down the right flank, but Thomas Partey will likely back up the teenager at right-back due to Jurrien Timber's suspension. Arsenal are still without Ben White and Takehiro Tomiyasu, as well as wingers Bukayo Saka and Raheem Sterling.

Merino and Martinelli, goalscorers at Brentford, should also keep their respective places.

Predicted Arsenal lineup vs Brighton: Raya; Partey, Saliba, Gabriel, Calafiori; Rice, Merino, Odegaard; Nwaneri, Jesus, Martinelli.

Brighton vs Arsenal score prediction

Brighton may be winless in seven and in the middle of an injury crisis, but the Seagulls have performed well enough over the past month and we shouldn't expect a walk in the park on Saturday.

The Gunners are seemingly growing in confidence, however, and the addition of Ethan Nwaneri as a solution for Bukayo Saka's absence looks set to increase their final third threat. They've appeared well balanced in recent outings, but the battle for control on Saturday will be fierce. I would love Arsenal to dominate in transition here, but they simply don't have the personnel.

Despite Brighton's injuries up top, I think there will be goals at both ends with Arsenal extending their unbeaten run with a win.

Prediction: Brighton 1-2 Arsenal
