Christos Tzolis is already making Arsenal fans forget about Vinícius Júnior

Christos Tzolis has impressed for Arsenal throughout pre-season and he is already making fans forget about missing out on a key target.

The Greek international joined from Club Brugge in July as one of two expected incomings on the left wing. With Leandro Trossard leaving for Beşiktaş and Gabriel Martinelli linked with a move away, many supporters felt Tzolis would be joined by another wide player at the Emirates Stadium.

Vinícius Júnior was touted as an option for the Gunners and the club were reportedly exploring a move for him, but he decided to sign a new contract at Real Madrid, ending the interest. While there was plenty of disappointment among the fanbase, Tzolis is already making Arsenal supporters forget about the Brazilian.

Tzolis has started all four of Arsenal's pre-season games so far, and has made an impact in each of the matches.

The Greek winger grabbed an assist when he set up Reiss Nelson for the opening goal in a behind-closed-doors win over League One side MK Dons.

He then built on that with a well-taken strike against Girona to get off the mark in Arsenal colours before finding Piero Hincapié's head with a brilliant corner delivery in the defeat to Real Betis.

His latest performance was also impressive as he caused plenty of problems against Borussia Dortmund, assisting Ethan Nwaneri and winning a penalty for Viktor Gyökeres to convert, before being brought off in the late stages.

While it is only pre-season and his appearances haven't come against the greatest teams, Tzolis is showing what he can give the Gunners and proving to Mikel Arteta that he can be the starter that Vinícius would have been.

The winger was always seen as a replacement for Trossard with his direct attacking ability, but most expected him to play a backup role behind the world class left winger his side are looking to introduce to the fold.

However, with Vinícius now unavailable and no reports on targeting another option amid interest in Martinelli, Tzolis has presented himself as a perfect starting option on the left flank.

He isn't the household name Vinícius is, but that doesn't mean he can't be Arsenal's first choice. Tzolis has proven himself so far in pre-season and shown his ability so there is absolutely no reason for him not to be considered as the primary option on the left side of attack.

It is quick to forget his performances have only come in friendlies and he will of course need time to adapt to the demands of the Premier League, but that would be the case for any winger coming in from abroad, world class or not.

Tzolis has proven himself so far and while the Gunners should continue their search for another wide option, the Greek has shown he can be a starter this season, quickly making fans forget about the failure to sign Vinícius. After all, it was Arsène Wenger who said "We don’t sign superstars, we make them." That could prove to be the case for Christos Tzolis at Arsenal.
