Morgan Rogers has been a key player for Aston Villa in recent seasons. His form has led to links with Arsenal, and he has said what an exciting player he is.
Rogers was quoted by The Athletic saying, “I know people might moan and be frustrated when I lose the ball — just keeping it is not my game. It never has been. It never will be. I don’t play football to be boring, to be safe. Other players are better than me at that, and that’s why they’re playing different positions.“
Gunners fans, particularly under Arsene Wenger, grew frustrated with their side overplaying. They would often be afraid to take players on and choose to pass rather than take players on.
Rogers is the opposite, and that is why he has been so effective for Villa. In 55 games in all competitions, Rogers has scored 14 goals with 12 assists this season. This included him scoring and setting up Youri Tielemans in their Europa League final victory over Freiburg.
There are calls for Rogers to start ahead of Real Madrid's Jude Bellingham in England's attacking midfield role at the World Cup this summer.
Arsenal already have many attacking midfielders
Rogers is arguably the best attacking midfielder in the Premier League. As Arsenal are the division's champions, they should be looking at signing the best players in each position. The Gunners already have Martin Ødegaard and Eberechi Eze as attacking midfielders.
Ødegaard is the club captain, but both he and Eze were inconsistent this season. Ødegaard missed multiple games through injury and ended the campaign with just one goal and eight assists in 35 games.
Eze had moments of brilliance, such as his hat-trick and brace against Tottenham Hotspur. However, in total this season, he scored 10 goals with six assists in 53 games.
Ødegaard and Eze were playing for a team that won the Premier League. Rogers was on a team that finished fourth. His numbers should be better at a team that competes for the title. However, there could be concerns that Rogers is a big fish in a small pond at Villa. Jack Grealish excelled for the Midlands club, but overall did not live up to expectations at Manchester City and was sent on loan to Everton.
There is interest in Rogers from not just Arsenal, but other Premier League clubs, including Chelsea and Manchester United. Top clubs across Europe, including Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain, are also interested in the player. Bayern may step up its efforts to sign him after missing out on Anthony Gordon, who is set to sign for Barcelona.
Rogers was at a big club in Manchester City, but did not get game time there before being sent on multiple loans. He then joined Middlesbrough before ending up at Villa. There is an argument that he may not have to go anywhere, as Unai Emery is working wonders at the Midlands club.
