All title-winning Premier League sides need strengthening, and Arsenal could do this by signing Bruno Guimaraes. It is harsh on Martin Zubimendi for the Brazilian to potentially take his place in Arsenal's midfield. However, Mikel Arteta will need to be ruthless if he is to add more trophies to Arsenal's cabinet.
Every Arsenal midfielder ranked from worst to best
10. Fabio Vieira
Fabio Vieira has been on loan from Arsenal in the last two seasons. He was loaned to his former club FC Porto, and spent last season with Hamburger SV. He will likely get another move from the Gunners this summer. Other Bundesliga sides to Hamburger including Stuttgart and Bayer Leverkusen, have shown interest. He has also been linked with Nottingham Forest.
9. Christian Norgaard
Christian Norgaard was a highly rated player when he was at Brentford. However, he has played just seven times in the Premier League since joining Arsenal. His failure to adapt at the Emirates Stadium will be one of the reasons why the Gunners are looking to Guimaraes to boost their options in defensive midfield.
8. Ethan Nwaneri
Ethan Nwaneri burst onto the scene at Arsenal and made his Premier League debut as a 15-year-old. Last season, he was on loan at Olympique Marseille. However, he played just 11 times for the Ligue 1 side. A potential move to Borussia Dortmund could be very good for Nwaneri's development.
7. Myles Lewis-Skelly
Whilst Myles Lewis-Skelly is predominantly a left-back, he is a useful option for Arteta in the defensive midfield role. He even started the Champions League final in the position. The potential addition of Guimaraes could mean that Lewis-Skelly would be used more in his natural position at left-back.
6. Mikel Merino
Mikel Merino is very useful for Arteta, but possibly more so when he is asked to fill in as a striker. He has a good record for the Gunners when playing up front and even recently scored the winner for Spain against Portugal.
5. Eberechi Eze
Eberechi Eze was inconsistent for Arsenal last season. He became an instant hero after he signed for the club from rivals Tottenham Hotspur's grasp. It was also a good story as Eze was released from Arsenal's academy.
Eze scored seven Premier League goals last season, with five of them coming against Tottenham. The attacking midfielder is currently with England at the World Cup. However, he has a bit-part role.
4. Martin Odegaard
The Arsenal captain did not have the best individual season as he scored just one Premier League goal. However, his campaign was disrupted by injuries.
Martin Odegaard is reminding Gunners fans what he can do at the World Cup this summer. He has helped Norway reach the quarter-finals, where they will play England. Odegaard was even surprisingly linked with Galatasaray, but this appears unlikely.
3. Martin Zubimendi
Zubimendi has just had a great season with Arsenal as he helped them win the Premier League and reach the Champions League final. He featured in all 38 domestic league games and missed just two of their European ties. This is why it appears harsh that Arteta is looking to replace him with Guimaraes.
2. Bruno Guimaraes
Guimaraes would likely replace Zubimendi as the holding midfielder and be the partner to Declan Rice. Guimaraes might be able to offer more of an attacking threat than Zubimendi. However, his priority if he were to join Arsenal would be to snuff out attacks and allow Rice to get forward.
1. Declan Rice
Declan Rice has become one of the best midfielders in the world. He was key to Arsenal's Premier League triumph last season and is currently starring for England at the World Cup. Rice is a real leader now and has worn the armband for his club. He is also the Three Lions' vice-captain. All the talk about Guimaraes joining is about what a partner he could be for Rice in midfield.
