Guimaraes secured, Vinicius verdict, and more: Everything that could happen at Arsenal this week

Arsenal's summer transfer window is starting to pick up pace now that the World Cup has come to an end.

The Gunners have had something of a slow start to the window, with the international tournament in North America delaying activity thus far. However, the competition ended last Sunday when Spain beat Argentina in New Jersey, and speculation has started to hot up ever since.

Christos Tzolis completed his £34 million switch from Club Brugge last week, replacing the departing Leandro Trossard, who has joined Besiktas.

More activity is expected to ensure, and this specific week could be pivotal for a number of deals.

Bruno Guimaraes deal could be sealed

Arsenal's deal for Bruno Guimaraes was tipped to be agreed last week, but this ultimately didn't materialise.

However, there were was a concrete development on this front. Multiple sources, including BBC Sport, reported on Thursday that a fresh bid for Guimaraes was being prepared by the Gunners.

It's believed that this bid, which should now have been lodged, was worth in the region of £70 million. It's anticipated that the proposal will be, or has been, rejected by Newcastle.

At this point, Arsenal should be aware that they're going to need to fork out upwards of £80 million for the Brazilian. Andrea Berta is expected to accelerate the deal this week, and it would be no surprise if an eventual agreement is reached by the end of this week.

If not, it would be safe to assume that it could be in jeopardy.

Vinicius Junior contract verdict should be imminent

David Ornstein broke the stunning news last week that Arsenal are exploring an audacious move for Real Madrid winger Vinicius Junior. The Gunners sense there could be a market opportunity opening up regarding the Brazilian and are preparing to pounce if this does prove to be the case.

Vinicius and Los Blancos are at a crossroads. The Spanish giants are potentially unwilling to offer the 26-year-old what he wants, both financially and from a status perspective, meaning his romantic spell at the Bernabeu could be close to coming to an end.

Arsenal have assessed the economic side of the deal and believe they can feasibly pull it off. However, if Vinicius and Real Madrid come to a consensus, the Gunners stand no chance.

Several sources indicate that crunch contract talks between the player and the La Liga club are set to take place this week. It should quickly become apparent whether an agreement will be possible or not, meaning Arsenal should get their answer in the next seven days.

Pre-season training will step up

Mikel Arteta and his squad flew to Spain on Sunday, ahead of a week of pre-season training in Catalonia. The Gunners returned to training after their summer break last week, and are now ramping up their preparations for the new campaign with a series of overseas sessions.

That said, only a handful of Arteta's senior players have made the trip, with 12 of the Gunners' star men still enjoying a holiday following their participation in the World Cup. Kai Havertz, Viktor Gyokeres and Piero Hincapie, all of whom were knocked out in the round of 32, did join up with the players not involved in the tournament in America.

At the end of this week abroad, the Gunners will play Girona in their first pre-season match on Saturday evening at the Estadi Montilivi. They will then fly to Dublin the following day, ahead of their game in the Irish capital on Wednesday night against Real Betis.
