Tzolis announcement, Guimaraes agreement, and more: Everything that could happen at Arsenal this week

Arsenal have had a slow start to the summer transfer window, but things are expected to kick into gear now the World Cup has ended.

Despite winnning the Premier League title last season, the Gunners are likelk to go big once again in the market, with Andrea Berta and Mikel Arteta not prepared to rest on their laurels.

Leandro Trossard has completed a £17 million switch to Besiktas, while Christos Tzolis is expected to replace the Belgian for around £34 million. Aside from these two deals, little has materialised for the North Londoners, but this could change in a matter of days.

A centre-back, a central midfielder, a left-winger and a striker are all on the agenda, and movement on each of these deals is set to accelerate.

With that said, here's a look at everything that might happen at Arsenal this week.

Christos Tzolis announcement close

Christos Tzolis' move to Arsenal is all but done, with the deal now merely subject to formalities.

Multiple reports suggest the Greek travelled to London on Monday, ahead of his medical on Tuesday. Once he's passed his medical, completed all the relevant paperwork and done his media duties, the deal can be announced.

The announcement is expected later this week, with some sources even suggesting it could come as early as Wednesday.

Arsenal returned to training on Monday, and Tzolis is expected to dive straight into Arteta's sessions, having had a summer off after Greece failed to qualify for the World Cup.

Bruno Guimaraes deal could be agreed

Arsenal continue to pursue Bruno Guimaraes, who is open to completing a switch to North London but isn't willing to throw his toys out of the pram like his former teammate Alexander Isak did last summer.

HandofArsenal reported on Monday that Newcastle are remaining staunch in their stance that they won't sanction the Brazilian's departure for anything less than £80 million.

This week could therefore prove decisive in determining whether a deal materialises or not, and it's not unreasonable to believe an agreement could be reached for this reason.

Arsenal should be acutely aware at this point that they'll need to stump up in the region of £80 million to secure Guimaraes' signature. With pre-season looming, Berta may be tempted to speed this deal up and succumb to Newcastle's demands in the coming days.

Centre-back links could hot up

Arsenal are aware that their typically robust centre-back partnership may not be as robust next season. They are preparing for both William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhaes to spend more time on the sidelines, and want to ensure they have the tools to deal with this.

While an official prognosis hasn't been made public yet, speculation suggests Saliba may be out for up to five months. Meanwhile, there is reportedly concern over Gabriel's knees, although the Brazilian is expected to resume pre-season training in a couple of weeks.

Thus, it's no surprise that links to centre-backs are heating up, and it's reasonable to expect developments to ensue this week. Ezri Konsa is seemingly the primary target, while Maxence Lacroix has also been linked, although the Crystal Palace man is now seemingly Chelsea-bound.

More loose links to Jacobo Ramon and Jon Martin have also surfaced.
