Mikel Arteta has had to be ruthless as Arsenal manager, and he has already rid the club of big names such as Mesut Özil and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. He has turned a side that was struggling under Unai Emery into one that is now top of the Premier League.

Özil and Aubameyang were players with big egos who needed to depart for the good of the team. However, more players are now surplus to requirements for different reasons.

Gabriel Jesus

Gabriel Jesus was signed by Manchester City from Palmeiras to be a long-term replacement for Sergio Agüero. Whilst he had success at City, winning the Premier League four times, he never lived up to expectations.

Now at Arsenal, who became known for recruiting from City, as they also signed Oleksandr Zinchenko. Evern Arteta was an assistant of Pep Guardiola's at the Etihad. Jesus has never been the 20-goal-a-season striker that the Gunners needed.

He has since been replaced by Viktor Gyokeres, and Jesus is currently out with a cruciate ligament tear. Whilst he is only 28, Jesus is already being linked with moves to the Saudi Pro League and back to Brazil.

Oleksandr Zinchenko (on loan at Nottingham Forest)

Zinchenko has already been loaned out by Arsenal, albeit to Nottingham Forest on loan this season. Like Jesus, he had success with City, where he won the Premier League as many times. However, he has also found himself replaced at the Emirates Stadium.

Riccardo Calafiori has been immense this season and is part of Arsenal's stellar back four. This includes the Italian, along with Gabriel, William Saliba, and Jurrien Timber. The Gunners also have the highly rated youngster Myles Lewis-Skelly coming through their ranks.

Zinchenko has made three Premier League appearances for Forest this season. However, he is now out with a hip injury. Sean Dyche's side are currently 19th in the Premier League. A relegation battle is a long way off from what the Ukrainian was used to at City and Arsenal.

We will not see Zinchenko in an Arsenal shirt again, as his contract expires at the same time as his loan deal with Forest. He is only 28 and faces an uncertain future. A move to Fenerbahce could be on the cards when he departs the Premier League.

Reiss Nelson (on loan at Brentford)

Some up-and-coming youngsters have come through Arsenal's academy recently. Ethan Nwaneri and Max Dowman are two teenagers who are already getting minutes for the first team. Reiss Nelson was only 17 when he made his Arsenal debut.

However, Nelson is becoming Arsenal's forgotten man. Since his debut, he has been loaned to Hoffenheim, Feyenoord, Fulham, and now Brentford. He has only made two Premier League appearances for the Bees so far.

Nelson will have a year left on his Arsenal contract when his loan deal with Brentford runs out. However, he will likely have to depart the club permanently to find somewhere where he can get regular game time.
